PWC Snapper Classic Rules

Overall
  • This event is open to anglers fishing from a Personal Water Craft only.
Fishing Times
  • No angler shall start fishing, including catching bait, before the official 5.00am start.
  • For any fish to be eligible, anglers must be in line at the weigh station at the tournament headquarters by or before 4.00pm on the tournament day.
Tournament Area
  • Anglers may only fish in the area encompassed by Hydrographic charter 532 Hauraki Gulf [See the attached map]
Tackle
  • Competitors can only fish in the competition using conventional rod and reel tackle or handlines. No spearguns, nets or longline systems of any kind are allowed.
  • Terminal rigs must consist of no more than three hooks, ie: sabiki rigs. Rigs recognised as bait catchers only may have up to six bait flies.
Choosing your entry type

INDIVIDUAL ENTRY:

An INDIVIDUAL angler entry is eligible for the Team 2-Up and Overall Prizes. Please Note: If entered as a junior angler they are only eligible for the junior prize pool.

TEAM 2-UP ENTRY: 

A TEAM 2-UP angler entry is eligible for the Team 2-Up and Overall Prizes. Please Note: If entered as a junior angler they are eligible for the junior prize pool only. Team 2-Up entries require that anglers are fishing two-up on a single PWC. Their are additional prizes for the top Team 2-Up (see price details).

JUNIOR ENTRY:

A JUNIOR angler entry must be of 15 years or younger. Please Note: To be eligible for the overall prizes, they must pay the full individual entry fee. If entered as a team 2-up they are eligible for the Team 2-Up and overall prizes. If entered as a junior angler they are eligible for the junior prize pool only.

 

Motherships
  • Mothership arrangements will not be allowed.
  • Anglers must go to and from the launching points to their fishing grounds under their own power.
  • Anyone abusing this rule will be disqualified.
Weather Conditions
  • Fishing will be cancelled if the Coastguard forecasts winds above 20 knots, or if there is an official  wind warning broadcast by Coastguard for the area.
  • In the event of this happening, all tournament prizes will be drawn against entry numbers at the prizegiving to be held at 5.00pm on the day of the tournament.
  • Competitors will be advised on VHF Channel 60 and 64 of any cancellation at 5.00am, repeated at 6.00am.
Weigh station
  • The weigh station will be situated at Woodbine Marine, Ti Rakau Drive, East Tamaki, and will be open at 2.00pm for weighing to start.
  • Anglers must be in line at the weigh station no later than 4.00pm for their catch to be eligible.
  • It is the angler’s responsibility to allow themselves enough time to get from the fishing grounds to the weigh station to meet the 4.00pm close-off. There will be no exceptions.
Weigh master
  • The weigh master is the sole judge of any entry.
  • All fish must be presented to the weigh master in good condition.
  • The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any fish they deem not to be in a good condition or with the suspicion that it has not been caught according to the tournament rules.
Target species
  • This tournament targets snapper and kahawai only.
  • There will be prizes for weighed, closest to the average, and mystery weight snapper and kahawai. Anglers may weigh up to two fish of both species. [please refer to the prize list]

The unlucky story of the day prize. Contestants need to explain the situation and submit the details via text to Sam Harvey on 021 444 235 before 4.30pm.

Teams 2-Up: - 2 Woodbine Marine Vouchers - worth $250 each

The top team 2-Up prize will go to the anglers fishing ‘two-up’ on a PWC that have entered in that category. The prize will go to the combined snapper weight of the two anglers catch submitted for weighing – Contestants can enter no more than two snapper each.

Early Bird Entry: One night stay for 2 at Taupo Hilton - worth $500

Spot Prizes: Over $2000.00 of Spot Prizes drawn randomly during the prize giving

All paid entries are eligible, however, with respect for fairness, once a contestants ticket number has been drawn that ticket entry will be not be eligible for any more spot prizes.

Hard Luck Prize

To be eligible: Text your hard luck story to Sam Harvey on 021 444 235 before 4.30pm on the Sunday of the tournament. Any photos as evidence will help the story. The best story will win the prize as judged by the panel.

Drawn prizes
  • Anglers can only win one drawn prize each on the day.
  • Once an angler’s name has been drawn for the first time, it will not go back into subsequent draws.
Prizegiving
  • The prizegiving will commence after 5.00pm as soon as is practical, at the tournament headquarters which is at Woodbine Marine, 245 Ti Rakau Drive, East Tamaki.
Safety
  • All competitors must carry and wear a suitable lifejacket or PFD.
  • All PWC must have two forms of communication on board. These may include VHF radio, cellphone and inshore flare pack.
  • All competitors must take prudent steps to ensure their own safety, including ensuring their PWC is in good condition, is carrying enough fuel to get to the fishing grounds and back with a good safety margin.
  • All competitors must make a trip report with Coastguard stating where they are leaving from, how many on board, intended destination and time of return.
  • Tournament organisers strongly suggest competitors get the current Coastguard app that has all the current weather and tide information and through which you can lodge your trip report on-line.
